Homeschool Memorizing Scripture often fails because there is no structured memory plan for the various grades. In Scripture Memory, the Bible verses to be memorized are carefully selected and are arranged under instructive topics. The children are not just learning scattered verses but Scriptures which are organized under a particular theme. This system assists the recall of the verses and enables the person to be actually learning simple Bible truth in an organized way. For example, the grade 3 memory book, "The Word of God," is developed under twelve assignment headings, as follows:
This book is attractively illustrated in color along with simple explanations, stories and poems. In addition, a student notebook based on the verses in the memory book is available. This provides various exercises for application of the truth in the verses. We have such memory books and student notebooks for grades three, four, five and on up through middle school and high school. In the ABC book, I AM book and grades one and two we have coloring books based on the Bible verses.
In homeschooling, the memory book and the notebook make for an excellent course in Bible or spiritual life, and can last for twelve weeks or may be stretched out for twenty-four weeks. The goal for students is to learn the verses in such a way that they will never forget them. After the course is completed, reviewing and enjoying the verses should be encouraged.
